The reporter recently learned from the China Liquor Association that the national mandatory standard "Beer Bottles" (GB4544-2020) will be officially implemented from August 1, 2021.

The reporter learned that this standard is the first mandatory national standard approved by the light industry after the simplification and integration of self mandatory national standards. The implementation of the new standards for beer bottles will provide quality control basis for the production of energy-saving thin-walled lightweight beer bottles, which not only reduces costs but also saves energy and environmental protection. It has important social significance and provides technical support for the healthy and healthy development of the industry. On July 23, 2020, the State Administration for Market Regulation (State Standardization Administration) approved the release of the mandatory national standard GB 4544-2020 "Beer Bottles" through Announcement No. 18.

GB 4544-2020 "Beer Bottles" is a mandatory national standard revised under the leadership of Donghua University (National Center for Quality Supervision and Inspection of Glasses and Enamel Products). The revision, which lasted for over 20 years, was finally released on July 23, 2020 and will be officially implemented on August 1, 2021. This standard attaches great importance to the personal safety of food packaging materials and consumers, fully integrating the development trends of domestic and foreign industries, and balancing safety production and energy conservation and emission reduction.

The reporter found seven main differences by comparing the new and old standards: 1. The requirement for product physical and chemical performance grading has been removed; 2. Divide the product into disposable bottles, recyclable new bottles, and recyclable old bottles, and specify physical and chemical performance indicators respectively. Among them, the impact resistance index is divided into two levels according to the different full mouth capacity of beer bottles to encourage the miniaturization of beer bottles; 3. Added vertical load strength testing; 4. Revised the specifications and dimensions, no longer separately specifying the specifications and dimensions of 640 mL beer bottles, only specifying the minimum thickness of the recyclable bottle body and bottom, and also specifying the specifications and dimensional tolerances for all products; 5. Removed the recycling period for beer bottles, no longer recommending a two-year recycling period for beer bottles, but placing more emphasis on quality monitoring during the use of recyclable old bottles; 6. The addition of disposable bottles should also include the word "NR" at the root of each product; 7. Added packaging content that may result in a decrease in the quality of beer bottles, such as not using jute bags or bundling.

At the same time, relevant associations remind beer bottle production enterprises to negotiate with beer manufacturers in a timely manner, actively organize production in accordance with the requirements of the new national standard, and avoid increasing the inventory of "beer bottles" that do not meet the requirements of the new standard.
